In all the years I have been making photographs, I have never taken the time to make a calendar.  Well, this was the year.  It was fun to go back and pick out my favorite photographs of scenes and things – photographs without people – to create this fun little 2012 calendar.  Now, I just have to get around to printing it out!

I walk by my front window every day, multiple times a day.  Most days I never really bothered to look out.  As of this summer, I started noticing the view, dashing for my camera and spending a few minutes each day taking in the view which, as you can see, varies greatly from day to day and given the time of day.  Be sure to take a moment to look and enjoy the view – no two are ever the same.

…a special project…aren’t they all when working with your own kids!  Late Saturday afternoon Meg came out with me to work on a project for Detra’s Light Workshop.  I let Meg pick the music, I picked the location and we worked together to tell the story – I just love collaborating with her!  The assignment was to interpret a song in pictures.  Below the photographs is the youtube video with the song which we interpreted.  I highly recommend playing the video while viewing the photos.  It is sung in German.  The title is “Spieluhr” which means music box.  It is a very dark song and I think we did a pretty good job of getting a storied interpretation across.

Spieluhr – by Rammstein (English interpretation)

A small person just pretends to die It wanted to be completely alone The small heart stood still for hours So they declared it dead It is buried in wet sand

With a music box in its hand

The first snow that covered the grave Woke the child very gently In a cold winter night

The small heart is awakened

As the frost flew into the child It wound up the music box A melody in the wind

And the child sings from the ground

Bumpety bump, rider And no angel climbs down My heart does not beat any longer Only the rain cries at the grave Bumpety bump, rider A melody in the wind My heart does not beat any longer

And the child sings from the ground

The cold moon, in full magnificence Hears the cries in the night And no angel climbs down

Only the rain cries at the grave

Between hard oak boards It will play with the music box A melody in the wind

And the child sings from the ground

Bumpety bump, rider And no angel climbs down My heart does not beat anymore Only the rain cries on the grave Up and down, rider A melody in the wind My heart does not beat anymore

And the child sings from the ground

Bumpety bump, rider
My heart does not beat any longer

On Totensonntag they heard this Melody from God’s field Then they unearthed it

They saved the small heart in the child

Bumpety bump, rider A melody in the wind My heart does not beat any longer And the child sings on the ground Bumpety bump, rider And no angel climbs down My heart does not beat any longer

Only the rain cries at the grave

The month of October has managed to pass us by very quickly.  I had good intentions of making a couple more postings this month but as the last week crept up on me I decided to do this retrospective.  After our trip to the pumpkin patch in Pomona, the kids carved their pumpkins, which wound up covered in black moldy fuzz after a few days as it has been hot here!  Jason has had soccer games each weekend and scored his first goal of the season.  He’s sure not scoring like he was last year, but the competition is so very stiff in the traveling league and he is learning a lot and improving.   You can tell many of those kids on the other teams really live for the game.  Megan was in the homecoming parade last weekend.  I do not go to games – only one so far, actually, and the picture taking was not very choice, so I save it for other occasions, like the photo walk we took on Sunday and the impromptu shoot she requested at the play ground.  Well, time to look forward to the approaching holidays.  I sure hope the kids’ activites ease up a bit because they keep us hopping.  Time passes too quickly and the kids are growing up way to fast!
